Who We Are
We are Shannan & Lauren Budde.
We moved to Oak Grove, Louisiana in Aug 2022 from Northern New Hampshire
Lauren is a retired disabled 22 year veteran of the Navy. After retiring from Active Duty service~ he went on to contract for the D.O.D for another 7 years- fully retiring in 2019.
Lauren spends his days working the farm and is a chainsaw artist!
You can see some of his stunning creations at the Farm Stand.
Lauren is the grower. He spends most of his hours in the day working our crops and coming up with creative ways to make the most out of our property. Having grown up on a cattle farm in upstate NY- he brings a lifetime of experience.
Shannan is a retired Educational Software Engineer and Classroom Modeler. She spent two decades helping Public and Private schools move from brick and mortar textbooks to online learning, long before the pandemic forced the education system into a remote learning model, Shannan was teaching teachers how to teach ~ using technology.
During the pandemic, we decided we wanted a quieter life, and bought our farm sight unseen here in Oak Grove. Our dream was to be a functioning and self sustaining homestead, growing our own food, raising our own protein, and being able to share that knowledge and nutrition with our community.
And as they say, "The Rest Is History"
Our Farm
We're blessed to have lush farmland, where we grow a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
We use sustainable farming practices to ensure that our crops are healthy and free from harmful chemicals.
Our farm is also home to a variety of animals, including horses and chickens, which are raised in spacious, loving and clean environments.
Our Market
Our Farm Stand IS OPEN and offers a wide variety of fresh and delicious products, including seasonal produce,
and farm fresh local eggs.
We also offer a selection of local artisanal products, such as pickled eggs, special sauces, meat rubs & marinades, salad dressings, pickles, pickled things and salsa. Soon we will be adding baked goods and fudge!

You can also order online for local pick-up!
Our Community
We believe in supporting our local community.
We work closely with other farmers and producers to promote local agriculture and sustainable farming practices.
The Rooster's Egg Farm offers a "Lay It Forward" Program where members of the community can pre buy eggs or fresh produce bags for those in need.
Our Chickens
Our Chickens are the heart and soul of our farm.
We started with 4 hens and chicken math took hold.
Initially, it was supposed to be a hobby- something to keep me busy in early retirement.
Before we knew what was happening- we had grown to over 100 chickens, became NPIP certified (72-1438 State of LA) and opened a Cottage Law Farm to Table Business.
All of our chickens are our pets. They ALL have a name, a spirit and a personality. They have complex social structures,
and care for one another.
Along with our chickens, we have goats, ducks, two huge hoses and a Mamma donkey and her new baby.
We have an organic and holistic approach to being chicken farmers- and hope you'll enjoy the delicious products our pets produce.
We care deeply for the well being and health of our flocks and all our farm animals. We pride ourselves on our humane approach to farming, and thank our animals everyday for their contributions to our dreams.
We do have strict bio security measures in place, so any requests to visit and see our chicken farm must be scheduled in advance and the proper safety equipment will be supplied.
Entering of coops for any reason is not permitted.
